Panamax

With a deadweight tonnage of between 60,000 to 79,999 tons, our Panamax vessels usually have 7 cargo holds. They generally carry Bauxite, Coal, Grain, Ore, Phosphates etc. These gearless vessels have a maximum breadth of 32.2m. The size of a Panamax vessel is limited by the Panama canal's lock chambers, which can only accommodate ships with beam of up to 32.31m.

Supramax bulkers, which have recently replaced Handymaxes, have a deadweight from approximately 50,000 tons to 60,000 tons. Like Handymaxes, Supramax vessels contain 5 cargo holds. The Supramax vessels are popular due to their relatively small size. They are favourable for docking at ports across the world and typically measure up to 190 meters in overall length. Their size allows them to cross through most canals and locks that would restrict other ships.

Handymax

120 Handymax

Handymax vessels are general purpose in nature. These ships are typically just under 190 meters in overall length and between 40,000 – 50,000 DWT in terms of cargo carrying capacity with five cargo holds and four cranes. They have gears that allow them to load or discharge cargo in ports without shore-based equipment.
"Handy" class carriers comprise two large ships, one of which is Handymax. They can match completely different cargoes in their multiple holds. Normally, the dimensions of Handymax vessels vary within a range of 150-200 m (492-656 ft) in length.
